The Designer's Club

Welcome to the Designer's Club! Here you will get to meet four of the people who make Build Your Own Website™ happen. Each month they will offer some advice on how to make the most of your Web building experience, as well as answer selected email questions.

There are many things that you can do to ensure that a site receives good reviews.

Here we have listed a few of them :
  • Make sure that everything works, everything loads and all the links are active.

  • Ensure that your site is kept up to date with new and interesting things. The basis of the site may not need to change but try and put something new or different on the site as often as you can.

  • Don't make each page a different layout and a different design. Keep some kind of consistency within the site. Limit the colors, text etc. and try and balance everything.

  • Make sure all your graphics and images are clean and neat. Bad quality graphics will make a site look cheap and amateurish.

  • Graphics and images can individualize and elevate a Web page, but overuse of graphics can ruin it completely. If a page takes too long to load many people will give up and go somewhere else. Balance graphics and images with the download time.

  • Proof-read all of your pages. Check and double check for spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors. Once you have done this, have someone else proof-read them as well.

  • Never forget that "Content is King". If you are asking people to visit your site, give them a reason to be there.
